Followed the signs while driving and went to Point Betsie Lighthouse - the beach was full of gorgeous rocks. There were really smooth white orb-like rocks, a beautiful red and green kind, petosky stones, and this cool kind of rock that is porous and looks like coral.

I’m in Suttons Bay, it is 2:20pm on July 14th. I drove up M22 - a highway that is much regionally beloved because it is so pretty - it reminds me of Cape Cod a little in the obvious ways - a peninsula with a one lane highway. I’m confused by the selection in all the book stores near here - on the radio on the way here I heard a program about young people not having finished books. I just bought buttons at the yarn store.

I’m driving by the most gorgeous blue water. It is 4pm now and I am very smitten with this. As I drive by, I keep thinking I’ll return to take a photo later, but I’m not sure that’s true. What if today is the only time I’m in this place. Are there places you’d like to return to? I am already regretting not having gotten this native flower book at a science store. This post office is very cute!

This is my third, and I think final town stop for the day - Northpoint. I didn’t realize that the post offices around here close at 4pm, so this card and the last one are dropped in mail boxes outside the post office - at the first one I specifically went in and asked if they had a local cancellation stamp and watched them do it - so at least one success. This town is the most peaceful. The wildflowers come in so many colors.

Hello from Cedar, MI. It is almost unbearably hot outside today so I’m on my way to the beach. There must be a large Polish population in this town because at the end of August there is a big polka festival here - and a Polish art store.

Hello from Elk Rapids! I picked up Nathan at the airport this morning and now we are driving towards the big bridge up north - I’ll send you a postcard from there. This town is very cute and the water is very clear. I got a record of old radio broadcasts - I don’t have a record player, but I think it’ll be interesting.

Hello from Petsoky! You may remember that name from the stone - it is also a town way up north. We haven’t gone to the historical museum yet so I can’t tell you much more than Hemingway used to have a house here (there’s a statue in town). All the buildings are of an old town - it’s quite nice they haven’t been ruined. On to the bridge…

Hello from Levering - it’s a very small town and I specifically wanted to make sure to drive through here because of how the streets are laid out on the map - a nice little rectangle. It's very hot out today & surprisingly hilly in these parts. The wildflowers are pretty and there is a very idyllic baseball field.

Hello from Kinross - we just drove by this tiny post office on our way to Sault Saint Marie - so close to Canada. I forgot to bring my passport though. We stopped at ‘The Mystery’ spot in the Upper Peninsula - right after we crossed the bridge. Oh - I got you a bridge postcard - will send that next. Do you know how to play bridge?

Hello from way up north! I’m in Sault Sainte Marie at the Soo Locks - today we ate crepes at the locks. They were operating on a trust security - a big guard came out as we walked through the gate and asked if we had weapons - no metal detection - good ol' days.

We just arrived in St. Ignace - it is so unbelievably gorgeous here on the lake. This afternoon we put our feet in Lake Superior and now we are by Lake Huron. I’ve got to say I never quite thought about seeing The Great Lakes as a child - I was very satisfied with my access to the ocean. But my, they are beauties.
